Healthy Biz: Great Harvest Bread Co. -- Waimalu

April 22nd, 2009 by Lori Okami

My last blog was about the health benefits of whole grains and if that’s not enough to convince you, you have got to stop at the Great Harvest Bread Co.  I visited the Waimalu store which serves the best fresh baked breads, scones, cookies, muffins, bars, made-to-order sandwiches, and even granola and more. You will undoubtedly enjoy getting your daily requirement of complex carbohydrates, fiber and vitamins this way.

This stop was sooooo worth it!  As you would expect, they have a great selection of fresh baked bread. I love the whole grain breads not only for their nutritional value, but I think they are so much more flavorful. Then you can treat yourself to some of their everyday goodies which include Blueberry Cream Cheese Scones (one of my favorites), Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, and specials like Home Style Bread Pudding and Cinnamon Twists that are to die for!

As if those weren’t enough, they’ve got scrumptious sandwiches and grilled paninis. This time I had the “ono” California Cobb; next time it’ll be the Grilled Cheese or Pastrami Jack Panini. You can even “Build Your Own” sandwich for those who want to customize their meal.

Drive past in the wee hours of the morning… catch a whiff of baking bread… and you will find yourself drawn to the store entrance. Who can resist fresh baked bread? And who ever said that eating healthy was boring and tasteless? They obviously have not eaten at Great Harvest Bread Co.

Again, it’s about quality. Nourish your body with quality food and you will be rewarded by feeling good, looking good, being healthy and living well.

Mahalo Anson at Great Harvest for a delicious meal and dessert! See you soon!

No, no! It's that place that makes you overeat. Have to agree the fresh baked breads are ONO. Just don't start on one when you're really hungry since it will disappear. Oh well, another hour on the eliptical.

  4. Lori Okami:

    Hi Jay!
You got it! Any special recommendations?

    Hey hemajang!
Yup. That's the one. It's in the same building as Starbucks. Haven't heard of whole wheat manapua but what a great idea. I think we should get the word out!

    Hi betterlatethannever!
Hey--no place makes you overeat! For me it's two meals--what a deal!
Gotta set those mental portions. Enjoy!

    Aloha,
    Lori

I was looking for a doctor blog but I guess you are the closest thing to it... anyway I wanted to know some facts about treating injuries. Question, are cortisone shots good for speeding up the healing process? or mainly to reduce pain? What about muscle inflammatory meds? speed healing or reduce pain? I ask because I injured my left shoulder from heavy bench press. I injured the right side 5 years ago, had surgery 2 years later and I don't want to go thru that again.

  7. Lori Okami:

    Hi Jay!
Yummy, scones!!! Blueberry cream cheese? Do you have a favorite bread? Thanks for sharing.

    Hello appagom,
I am soooo far from a doctor. You really need to see your doctor. FYI-- There is an injury clinic held on Saturdays by STAR Physical Therapy, 850 Kamehameha Hwy, Ste 167C in Pearl City at 9am, call 536-2261. From what I understand, they have recognized local doctors available to provide advice. I was planning on checking it out when I can free up a Saturday but that may be a good place to start if you hesitate on returning to your doctor at this point.

    Take care,
    Lori
